Research abstract

In alignment with the United States Air Force's (USAF's) energy initiatives, we propose an advanced energy-aware UAS mission planning framework, Robust High-fidelity Energy-Informed Autonomy Framework (RHEIA) , designed to integrate comprehensive energy management into unmanned aerial systems (UAS) with both off-board and on-board components. The framework is designed to enhance both vehicle-level and broader mission-space autonomy. The mission planning supported by RHEIA considers numerous energy, power, and thermal factors covering environmental conditions, mission specifications, and platform energy constraints, thereby advancing mission planning complexity with improved flight systems' capabilities. Our framework aims to transition to a new generation of autonomous planners that can process and adapt to numerous energy, power, and thermal factors.
