Research abstract
The Air Force seeks a mesostructure driven optimization toolkit for hypersonic loading environments. Through additive manufacturing, mesostructures offer opportunities to tailor the mechanical and thermal response. Allowing for more novel solutions which can be optimized for increase maneuverability, light weight, thermal load path management, and many other conditions. Corvid proposes to develop a framework which utilizes topology optimization to inform the material property distribution in the component design space. To support this effort, a detailed literature survey will be performed on current simulation software’s performance to hypersonic problems and general thermal/mechanical loading data. Additionally, a prototype component will be selected and evaluated using finite element solver to determine its suitability of design and optimization using the developed framework.
