Research abstract

There is an exceptional increase of activities in the ocean like maritime transportation, trade, fishing and military activities. In order to maintain these activities monitoring and management of ships in real time becomes a necessity.  Now with the upsurge of autonomous ships for long and short distance cargo ships, especially ships under high risk military operations they have to be aware of their surroundings. Hence, unmanned or autonomous ships should have the ability to detect ships and also classify them for better situational awareness. So object detection, tracking and classification becomes an important task and to tackle this a robust visual system is required. So, in this effort UtopiaCompression’s mature Intelligent Visual System for Maritime Applications (IVSMA) allows automatic detection, tracking and classification of various types of vessels on the surface of water.  IVSMA will also have the capability to fuse optical tracks and radar tracks for better situational awareness and the software will be camera agnostic.
