Research abstract

WVC introduces a groundbreaking solution, the Automated Health Sync Hub (AHSH), addressing a critical gap in the market by providing a seamless method to synchronize Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) wearables. Unlike existing options, AHSH is compatible with nearly every wearable device available, offering a simple yet robust solution with minimal risks and ease of maintenance. This innovative design prioritizes low-cost, low-power hardware, ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness. The long-term vision for AHSH includes a family of mobile-capable syncing hubs, leveraging satellite or cellular networks for connectivity. These hubs will feature advanced functionality, such as real-time data acquisition and display during soldier activities, supporting a wide range of COTS wearables. Furthermore, AHSH automates the onboarding process for new wearable devices, eliminating reliance on third-party applications and database structures. With AHSH, WVC pioneers a transformative approach to wearable data synchronization, revolutionizing health monitoring capabilities in military and beyond. WVC is actively evolving its core system software design towards a decoding approach to streamline software complexity and hardware requirements. This method leverages insights gained from the previous Phase II effort, applying a direct software approach to replicate pairing, connecting, and syncing processes within a Linux environment. Transitioning to the Raspberry Pi 5 platform from a high-end mini PC significantly reduces both cost and power usage while maintaining the capacity to sync at least ten wearables in parallel. Moreover, this approach enables immediate data access, eliminating the previous delay of several hours before data appeared in the human performance data management system. Additionally, it enhances feedback mechanisms in case of sync failures, allowing for prompt identification and resolution of issues, potentially improving operational efficiency. Looking ahead, the decoding approach holds the promise of real-time data acquisition for wearable devices supporting such capabilities, marking a significant advancement in health monitoring technology.
