Research abstract

Army helicopter pilots are exposed to intense noise levels during daily operations. The Army has been searching for aviator helmet communication systems with improved acoustic performance but has not found them in existing technology. Triton Systems proposes to further design, develop, test, and prepare manufacturing plans for an active noise cancellation technology that was prototyped and demonstrated in the Phase II Base period of performance. This technology is a retrofit for the HGU-56P aviator helmet communications system with the least additional weight and cost. The technology has been shown to be comfortable to wear and exceeds the battery life requirement needed for the longest missions. TritonÆs solution will provide aviators with a helmet communications system with improved speech intelligibility and will also reduce the long-term health side effects associated with intense noise exposure.
