Research abstract

Anovion Technologies is a climate tech-driven advanced materials company, initially focused on manufacturing synthetic graphite in the U.S. to sustainably secure the North American supply chain for the electrified future.Ā Anovion, a U.S.-based, U.S.-owned manufacturer of synthetic graphite used as anode powders in lithium-ion batteries, plans to improve and expand its graphitization furnace technology at its research and development laboratory in Sanborn, NY. Anovion is one of the few companies to manufacture synthetic graphite end to end in the United States and currently supplies materials into a range of e-mobility, satellite, and energy storage applications for e-bus, Department of Defense, and other lithium-ion battery applications. The graphitization step is key to the production of quality anode powders as it controls the crystal structure of the final graphite and thus the applicability of the graphite for use in batteries. In Phase I of this project, Anovion will optimize its research furnace to improve efficiency and reduce energy usage of the graphitization process step. As graphitization is one of the highest cost steps of the process, Anovion will optimize process parameters for economic and environmental impact. optimize process parameters for economic and environmental impact.
