Research abstract

Under Phase I, Fenix Group studied the Talon™ radio technology’s suitability to overcome a number of DTRA’s communication problems. Fenix Group demonstrated the capabilities of the Talon™ radio and the results were evaluated and validated by DTRA personnel. Based on a number of live demonstrations and tests, the outcome of Phase I research confirmed Talon™ is able to address DTRA’s communications problems. Talon™ transmits spectral data. Talon™ operates in frequencies throughout the unlicensed 2.4GHz ISM band. Talon™ provides band agility to resist attack, overcome jamming events, and mitigate RF congestion – and no spectrum coordination is required. Under Phase II, Fenix Group will design and deliver the Talon™ radio in four (4) form factors: Phone Sleeve, PCB, Low-Vis Radio, and Enclosed PCB with Bracket. These form factors will facilitate DTRA CONOPS by connecting CBRN sensors to data consumers over a more reliable, versatile, extensible network that is less detectable and more resilient in the face of EW. The network will post native COT data to ATAK and will connect remote sensors to key personnel over UAS-enabled connections. Radios will be configurable using the easy-to-use, intuitive Talon™ app enabling DTRA to deploy the network with minimal training. Deliverables include commercial radio kits, software, documentation, and training.
