Research abstract

Vision Point Systems (VPS) proposes to continue the development of an Intelligent Corrosion Simulation and Design Tool (ICT) that can provide expert analysis and guidance to ship designers in the effort to increase future availability of SSN(X) class boats.  VPS will work closely with the design entities to ensure the ICT workflow fits seamlessly with current workflow and design practices. The system will be comprised of a back-end database, an SME user interface (UI), a drawing import tool, a corrosion performance analysis engine, and a simulated performance output module.  The system will accept component design drawings coupled with input from subject matter experts (SME). The SME will have the option to assign material and environmental parameters to the design scenario and select either coarse or detailed mode to generate analytical outputs that can then be utilized to evaluate the corrosion performance of the materials selected for the intended service environment.  The system will also generate corrosion model suggestions that the SME can select from to generate formatted corrosion model solver input files. Corrosion model solvers available for selection by the end user will require that data mapping between user specified parameters and model solver input file formats be programmed into the system by developers. Once the solver data mapping is available to the ICT, end users will be able to build out custom model scenarios utilizing the available solver mappings for use in future component design drawing analysis.
