Research abstract

Triton Systems proposes to continue development of a novel corrosion and abrasion resistant solution to extend the service life of carrier Type VIII (five bar) aircraft tie-downs. Our solution utilizes a novel coating process that results in improved coating adhesion, impact resistance, allows weldability, reduces cost, and retains strength. The novel material selection and process will improve the reliability and extend the service life to the NavyÆs targeted 50-year objective. During this Phase II effort, Triton will ensure that the prototype fittings can be welded to high strength steel decking using Navy qualified welding procedures. We will demonstrate fitting performance through prototype evaluation and testing over the required range of parameters including accelerated corrosion, wear, weld-ability, and mechanical properties. We will ensure that the fitting satisfies the pull strength requirement specified in the NAVSEA Drawing 803-1916300 applicable to Type VIII tie down. We will refine the prototype fittings as necessary to meet all requirements.Ā By the end of the Phase II program, we will have produced a minimum of 15 prototype aircraft fittings for delivery and evaluation via numerous deployment cycles to verify test results.Ā We will prepare a Phase III development plan to transition the technology for Navy use.
