Research abstract
Optimizing demand for available transportation infrastructure is desirable for the Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration, local and regional agencies, private organizations, and individuals. Unfortunately, traditional Transportation Demand Management (TDM) efforts fail to facilitate cooperation between actors, and rely heavily on marketing and financial incentives to influence behavior. Their impact is difficult to measure, and costs are not efficiently spread among stakeholders, likely placing undue burden on taxpayers. Blockchain technology has the potential to address this challenge by establishing a secure, self-sustaining, and decentralized system that rewards individuals for using transit and making other sustainable choices while providing insights about demand to inform service planning. Successful development and commercialization will require deep expertise at the intersection of technology and TDM. At RideAmigos, we have been working for over a decade on solutions for public and private sector organizations, as well as individual commuters, which harness emerging technologies and behavioral science to optimize the use of available transportation options. Our team of TDM experts, researchers and developers is preparing to develop a blockchain-enabled incentivization system combined with our mobile app for commuters. The resulting solution will revolutionize the way individuals make mobility decisions and maximize investments organizations make in influencing sustainable transportation choices.
