Research abstract

Ghost Robotics will partner with the 7th Security Forces Squadron at Dyess AFB to demonstrate a proof of concept of how the Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicle (Q-UGV) robots and a tethered small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) attachment on the “doghouse” charging station can increase surveillance line of sight and improve operator control over the robot patrol dogs in areas with weak communications signals. The R&D modifications and additions to the Q-UGV doghouses will save time and improve efficiency by reducing the amount of time spent on manual / physical persistent security patrols from 192 hours per year to (0) zero through automation; increase perimeter coverage by seven (7) miles, and free up one Defender per Q-UGV by automating patrols. The new tethered sUAS capability will improve surveillance visibility by building a new doghouse-mounted tethered-UAS capability that increases line-of-sight distance to better detect threats from a higher vantage point and will strengthen robot communications, enabling stronger command and control in more distant areas of the base.
