Research abstract

In 2010 our passion for 3D gaming engines, along with our experience in human-machine interfaces (HMI) for industrial automation systems, pushed us to unite both worlds, game engines with real-world applications. Since then, we have worked with the Unity game engine for topics related to ldquo;serious games.rdquo; Unity met our simulation and Digital Twin needs in performance and connectivity, help from the developer community, and support. With traffic and commute times increasing, there will be increasing demand and a market for alternative transportation methods. Answers that extend beyond the prevailing model for manned aircraft services to promote shared situational awareness and collaboration among operators are needed. The ideal product is a fully automated Air Traffic Control planning platform as a service (PaaS) that requires customers and aircraft routes, weather mapping, target delineations over a limited number of airports, vertiports and vertihubs. We propose a PaaS that creates a Digital Twin and Synthetic Environment for 10km^2 of a given city procedurally. We can overlay actual and simulated data from the city (e.g., weather, tree, infrastructure, powerlines, traffic). Stakeholders will be able to use the system to simulate weather data and multimodal transportation system interactions for up to 42,000 independent agents.
