Research abstract

Highly maneuverable hypersonic vehicles pose an emerging threat which require that we revisit the kill mechanisms employed to defeat them. In Phase I, SwRI and Anyar will consider a trade space study that examines the potential for including blast/fragmentation warhead systems to increase the volume of space available to impart lethal effects. Anyar’s overarching objectives are defined in the context of developing a proof-of-concept process whereby an overall Pk can be computed using a basic set of scenarios and models across the suite of proposed tools, identifying gaps in capability or fidelity, and developing additional pre/post-processing scripts where necessary. This process will consist of a variety of scenarios in the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) for mission analysis preceded by Survivability/Lethality/Vulnerability (SLV) simulations for weapon vs target interactions using the Advanced Joint Effectiveness Model (AJEM) and/or Munition Effectiveness Vulnerability Assessment/Endgame Framework (MEVA/EF) corresponding to a defined set of weapon/target spatial distributions. The end-product of the phase one effort will be a detailed view of the overall process including data flow through each of the constituent simulations, required models and scenarios, the respective inputs and outputs of each, and experimental designs and optimization methodologies where appropriate. To facilitate the analysis, Anyar will create micro-services (e.g. Docker Containers) for each application above to create a scientific workflow capable of automating the execution of the analysis and trade studies across clusters of Linux and/or Windows CPUs. Anyar will execute the micro-service workflows in our Simulation of Federated Applications (SOFA) container workflow system that can support laptops, workstations, secure enclaves, and cloud native computing.
