Research abstract

In response to the Navy SBIR Topic N203-148, entitled Crawling Amphibious Breacher (CRAB), Triton Systems, Inc. and team members will develop a submersible autonomous amphibious breaching vehicle capable of proofing assault lanes from the surf zone (<40 feet depth) through the beach zone, reducing explosive and non-explosive obstacles, and clearing craft landing zones  to allow Warfighters and their equipment safe passage from vessel to beach and beyond. This project leverages Triton’s experience developing autonomous products for the DoD. In Phase I, our team will demonstrate the feasibility of Triton’s ICECRAB solution as a superior assault lane proofing system that meets Navy requirements. Furthermore, Triton will demonstrate feasibility of the ICECRAB concept to assure ICECRAB’s ability to meet Marine Corps needs and establish that ICECRAB is a useful and effective Marine Corps proofing system.  Triton will also provide a Phase II development plan, including performance goals (KPP) that addresses technical risk reduction. In Phase II, the team will develop, test and validate the practical implementation of a scaled prototype system outlined in Phase I for evaluation. Triton’s team will determine the prototype ICECRAB’s ability to meet performance goals (using evaluation to refine the prototype) defined in the Phase II development Plan and Marine Corps requirements. In Phase III, Triton’s team will support the Marine Corps in transitioning the technology through test and validation to certify and qualify the system for Marine Corps use. Develop an ICECRAB vehicle for evaluation to determine its effectiveness in an operationally relevant environment. Support the Marine Corps for test and validation to certify and qualify the system for Marine Corps use.
