Research abstract

Energy is critical for the U.S. military’s core national defense mission, yet it is simultaneously a vulnerability to the military’s ability to confront 21st century challenges that are global and increasingly more complex. Cost-effective optical sensors such as satellite imagery, drone scanning, and gas imaging have developed rapidly over the last few years and offer the opportunity to scale an end-to-end autonomous security monitoring and maintenance system specific for energy defense. However, the advancement of these monitoring technologies requires an equally effective data analytics infrastructure to draw insights and make informed decisions from intentional threats to greenhouse gases.
