Research abstract

For this study, Innoflight is pursuing an object-tracking use case for a machine vision algorithm to be implemented on Innoflight's commercial CFC-500 space processor. Object tracking is an area of computer vision that has been highly researched, and has a great number of potential applications spanning multiple disciplines. These disciplines include many of the applications trying to be addressed by the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) proposed constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. With the growing threat of adversaries, it is crucial that MDA and the Department of Defense (DoD) has at its disposal constant surveillance of earth’s atmosphere to provide early detection and alert to the warfigther. In order to achieve this level of surveillance, sensors and Focal Plane Arrays (FPAs) are needed to gather data. However, this data collection is often bottle necked with the current offering of commercial space processors. Innoflight is is offering a comprehensive computing solution to MDA that addresses the lack of computing power offered in current market place, and Innoflight will address the weakness in such a way that proves the validity of the design with a relevant machine vision application and with the qualifications to survive the typical radiation environments found in space (both man made and natural).
