Research abstract

We are submitting an enabling technology that delivers near RADAR equivalency in Orb cockpits and at Orb ground support stations.  Our proposal is to perform RDT&E to spatially-synchronize 3D Weather Technology to an Orb's orientation & GPS location (e.g., as the Orb banks left, the technology displays weather to the left).  This technology will provide Orb (as well as UAV and other smaller aviation vehicle) operators, pilots and controllers with low altitude (boundary layer) and Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) near-time graphical weather.  Ground-based weather RADAR is not available below 1500-3000 feet AGL, where most Orbs and UAV's operate.  Additionally, Orbs (and other smaller vehicles) can not install RADAR hardware due to weight, battery and other vehicle limitations. This gap in low altitude weather knowledge puts Orbs (which are already weather sensitive) at substantial risk of weather related accidents due to CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) and LOC (Loss of Control).  Our data-input agnostic technology can be fed weather inputs from NOAA models, GOES satellites, micro-weather forecasts, sensors (including on weather drones) or ground stations.   It is live (not vaporware) and it is continuously being improved.  Due to the massive amount of meteorological data available to provide accurate output, our team has begun working on Quantum Computers (which are some of the only machines able to process that vast amounts of weather data needed for near-realism accuracy). Our team was the first to produce 3D Aviation Weather and is one of the best in the world for weather programming, including using Quantum Computers.  We have aviation technology programming expertise and a track-record of successfully delivering complex visualization and user-interface code.  Our existing 3D weather output has been optimized for utilization on laptop computers & mobile devices and it has been tested on General Aviation aircraft.  Our team includes Purdue University (Research Institution). With this Agility Prime opportunity and by leveraging a 3D atmospheric environment output we can can accomplish the RDT&E needed to deliver a valuable technology to the Orb industry and also bring innovation to the Weather RADAR industry.
