Research abstract

In Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, mere seconds can mean the difference between victim rescue and recovery. Our Integrated Multi-Sensor Life Detection System (IMLDS) for implementation on eVTOL/UAM significantly advances detection and assessment, accuracy and field of use, exceeding other available SAR technology.  It could lead the emerging eVTOL/UAM market for disaster response, humanitarian aid, and logistical missions. IMLDS combines a unique Radar sensor with a single pair of rotating transmitting and receiving antennas, with an advanced multi-sensor integration algorithm of active and passive sensors that utilizes changing antenna polarities with spatial antenna displacement. It detects and assesses victims and multi-targets through 3D localization, and no-contact Pulse and Respiration Rate Measurement (PRRM) through walls, rubble, and other obstacles.  Its autonomous deployment via eVTOL/UAM provides all-terrain coverage. This opportunity will facilitate Rhein Tech Laboratories' continued R&D to improve our understanding of: Radar mode selection and combination Antenna polarity effects on detection Phase and frequency shifts due to micro movements Sensor integration for improved accuracy Appropriate signal processing and algorithm optimization
