Missile Plume Analysis & Modeling for Generation of Missile Profiles Used in Missile Warning

Currently, a few second 2D axi-symmetric, much less a 3D, missile launch simulation event requires a substantial resource commitment. In order to support timely generation of missile signature profiles, Metacomp in Phase I explored new methodologies to greatly reduce run times for total intensity applications as well as implemented a new non-interactive mode in plume family of software to facilitate automated interfacing with other codes and support execution in batch mode. The Phase II effort will focus on: (1) implementing viable methodologies found in the Phase I, (2) further accelerating flowfield generation productivity, (3) devising at least one efficient methodology to pre-pend the signature profiles of a launch flash sequence to the missile’s free-flight signature profiles, (4) quantifying the importance or characterize various effects like 3D, missile and silo obscuration, and aspect angle, (5) validating against representative threat systems of interest, and (6) assisting appropriate organizations in use of the improved simulation suite.
