Research abstract

The goal of NanoSonicÆs Phase II SBIR program is to provide the Navy with readily installable, removable, and reusable high temperature, fire protective HybridSil insulative panels for Littoral Combat Ships (LCS). Upon conferring with Navy team members, it has been conveyed currently employed Type I MIL-PRF-32161 insulative panels are damaged during routine inspections, are not reusable, difficult to remove, and problematically absorb water in the LCS-2 waterborne mission zone (Figure 1). To address these challenges, NanoSonic proposes to develop and qualify an easily installable and removable HybridSil insulative panel that is designed to exceed the perform requirements outlined in MIL-PRF 3216 for Type I high temperature insulative, fire-protective panels. These panels will also be uniquely designed to address the installation, removal, and damage challenges of legacy panels. NanoSonicÆs Type I HybridSil panels will reduce maintenance and waste while affording enhanced structural insulation.
