Research abstract

COVE is nearing 20 years in operation. COVE was developed as a “state-of-the-art navigation and ship handling training” system for all Surface Officers. Over the years, scenarios (ports) have been added, environments have been improved for more realistic feedback, and newer technology has been integrated but the system is still lacking the capability to provide autonomous performance assessment and varying degrees of complex tasks and feedback. D5T will use an iterative optimization process which progressively matures the development of algorithms and integration of adaptive coaching and easy to understand AARs into the COVE/COVE-ITS system.
