Research abstract

RDRTec with support from our partners NRL (Naval Research Lab) and Telephonics, propose to prototype and demonstrate a novel, Cognitive radar two-tier defense for innovative Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) imaging in the presence of electronic attack (EA) in contested environments. This includes techniques that (1) prevent identification as a high-threat from radar warning systems during ISAR operations and (2) increase the success and effectiveness of processing and exploiting ISAR data while in the presence of EA. In particular, our study will explore Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) cognitive radar techniques which decrease the likelihood of triggering EA by addressing the search parameters of passive radar warning receiver (RWR) and electronic support (ES) systems, while at the same time paving a pathway to preserve imaging capabilities while under electronic attack. A two-tiered defense is critical to success because of the effectiveness of modern EA systems. Once triggered, even the best electronic counter-counter measures (ECCM) will result in degraded classification performance.
