Research abstract

The objective of this proposal is to adapt a commercially available gravity infusion monitor to wirelessly integrate with BATDOK and other commercial patient monitoring systems. The scope of this effort spans hardware design, software engineering, and field testing with the 711th HPW and 103rd RQS. Intravenously (IV) administered medications are essential and versatile for treating critical patients in Role I and Role II environments, and gravity infusion is the most common method of administration in these austere settings. The DripAssist Infusion Rate Monitor has demonstrated downrange efficacy for DoD end-users and this effort aims to further the benefit from rate monitoring to automated record-keeping that simplifies patient hand-offs. Based on our Phase I results, integration with BATDOK would achieve this additional benefit and make the DripAssist unit more useful to Air Force end-users, especially Pararescue Jumpers. The objective of this Phase II effort is to finalize user requirements and functional specifications to modify DripAssist hardware and firmware for wireless functionality. Intellectual property for this work was secured through a patent issued to Shift Labs in April of 2019. This proposal uses matching funds to build on a commercially successful product platform that aligns with strategic development.
