Research abstract

Pison is a human performance optimization company providing a wearable neuromuscular sensor that enables gesture-based control for electronic devices. Our interface platform can be integrated with existing systems for drone navigation and operational task-management. We are creating new capabilities for operators to point and select drone units in-air (physical or virtual), receive confirmation of selection, set map waypoints, and visualize drone-mounted sensor readings. Operational users receive multimodal feedback via the Pison device (haptic vibration), audio, tablets, and AR. Our interface is designed to be heads-up and hands-free enabling operators to maintain situational awareness at all times. Utilizing our intuitive control system, users may select a subset of drones, send units to a location, and view telemetry data from those tasked units. Currently, operators on the ground may rely on non-collocated remote pilots to navigate drones and relay information. In situations where an operator has the ability to control drones, it can cause a crucial team member to dedicate attention to the asset, thus removing personnel from the situation and inhibiting group effectiveness. With the ENDER system, drone commands can be sent with small hand gestures, without an operator moving eyes from the battlefield or dropping a tool or weapon
