Research abstract

The Navy needs to increase the rate of development of hypersonic materials and technologies for reentry systems. However, thermal protection materials are difficult to manufacture causing bottlenecks in the supply chains and expensive critical systems. To meet this critical need, Raven proposes Microwave Assisted Deposition of High-Temperature Composites (MAD-HTC), 3D printed hypersonic materials for rapid, low-cost, and adaptable hypersonic production. Raven’s innovation unlocks the production-level 3D printing of aerospace-grade thermoset composite for lightweight structures and thermal protection. In Phase II, Raven will develop a MAD-HTC 3D printing production line for the Navy’s needs.
