Research abstract

The project develops analytics application for evaluation of sustainment data of fielded repairable parts and systems. One focus of this effort is evaluating reliability trends and anomalies in the sustainment of aircraft fleet. The development answers the need for reporting of the reliability as it varies across the time and across the population of the aircraft or LRUs. The data analysis methods in this project connect diverse historical data in a unified framework, enabling early identification of “bad actors” that contribute disproportionally to system failures. Another focus is evaluating stocks and flows of parts between maintenance and part repair locations along with part supply. The methodology can provide specific and actionable guidance aimed at restoring degraded performance of the sustainment processes in a cost-effective manner. Earlier Phase II and Phase III projects demonstrated operational application of the approach to one USAF aircraft fleet and one of the major LRUs used in this fleet. This effort will develop a prototype software tool implementing the analytics and ready for integration with the AF enterprise IT systems; it will enhance analytics by adding needed features; the developed analytics will be operationally deployed for several LRUs in another USAF aircraft fleet.
