Research abstract

This effort will develop a capability for making high resolution, accurate surface profile measurements of high Mach number projectiles in flight for characterizing surface ablation and other inflight damage to the projectiles. The Phase II program will build on the Phase I feasibility demonstration to design, build, test and refine the prototype profiling system. The program will culminate in a demonstration of profile capture at two positions of a hypervelocity object and the estimation of the volume change in the object between the two positions.
