Research abstract

Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) has developed Mobius, a command and control application used to monitor vehicles and assets and to control automated vehicles. Mobius is currently used to control a wide variety of ground vehicles that range from small indoor vehicles up to large 360-ton haul trucks. These vehicles are used in many different applications such as mining, farming, material handling, cleaning and automotive. Mobius includes many features required for automated vehicle control. This includes advanced path planning capabilities for multi-vehicle operations, as well safety monitoring systems to ensure each vehicle being controlled is safely interacting with other automated vehicles as well as manned assets and safe. Safe operating areas can also be defined to ensure that the vehicles only operate where allowed. ASI has also developed convoy technology for unmanned vehicle convoys. This can be used with a manned or unmanned lead vehicle. The purpose of this proposal is to make the necessary modifications to allow the convoy system to be used with Mobius with both a manned lead vehicle and an unmanned lead vehicle. ASI has worked with Edwards AFB to define a Phase II trial that will be completed as part of this project.
