Research abstract

Triton Systems proposes to continue developing and demonstrating a novel composite material to replace the current zirconium copper electrodes in arc heaters and allow hypersonic testing under more extreme conditions. In the Phase II effort, we will refine and begin to scale up the composite material; we will fully characterize the electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of the composites; and we will fabricate and test full-scale prototype arcjet electrodes to demonstrate the value that the new electrode materials provide to arc heater testing.
