Research abstract

The United States Air Force currently relies on various legacy Tube technology-based Radar Transmitters which are increasingly more expensive to own and operate due to diminishing sources of supply and support from OEMs. Some Tube-based Transmitters in mission critical applications, such as the AN/FPS-108 and the AN/FPQ-16 Radars, struggle with unreliable TWTAs. Daico proposes to ultimately replace the TWTA transmitters in the AN/FPS-108 Radar with a fully Solid-State Transmitter (SSTx) by utilizing our (m+n)SSTx Technology to develop a suitable SSPA building block. Our proven (m+n)SSTx Technology has already established significantly higher standards for Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (Ai), while reducing the Total Cost of Ownership for specific mission critical applications. Using the scalable and flexible (m+n)SSTx Architecture, a SSTx, each delivering hundreds of KW of power, for the AN/FPS-108 Radar can readily be achieved by developing an extremely reliable CHPA which can be used as a building block. The proposed SSPA building block for AN/FPS-108 Radar will provide >99.99% inherent Availability as well as unprecedented Reliability and Maintainability. This proposal will also systematically focus on the Affordability of the SSTx specifically in a land-based or airborne application in order to ascend above the legacy TWT.
