Research abstract

Training effectiveness evaluations (TEEs) allow researchers to determine the utility of new or altered training processes, procedures, and systems. Training efficiency takes this evaluation one step further and allows researchers to account for costs in conjunction with effectiveness, however, training efficiency analyses are not currently conducted because validated methods for this type of analysis do not exist. This project focuses on research to establish a methodology for assessing training efficiency across multiple training technologies, and the development of a tool to support these evaluations. This tool introduces the first practical solution for conducting training efficiency analyses. While there is extensive literature on TEEs, evaluation of training, cost, and efficiency is rarely conducted. Further, a tool to support the entire evaluation process that covers these core components would benefit researchers in conducting these analyses. Therefore, we propose to develop the TEE-TEST, a tool to enable researchers, acquisitions personnel, and other users to evaluate the comparative effectiveness and efficiency of emerging, immersive training technologies such as augmented and virtual reality.
