Research abstract

The Phase II Technical objective will begin with further refinement and testing of the HPM mask retrofit kit based on the findings in Phase I. In Phase II, the HPM oxygen mask retrofit kit will mature into a complete solution with the objective to eliminate mask pain and poor fit, resulting in a marked improvement in pilot mask discipline. In phase I, pilots were interviewed to research the specific mask fit and comfort issues associated with the currently fielded MBU-23/P mask. The phase II technical objective will be to test and demonstrate that the HPM solution will perform in a relevant and actual flight environment. This will demonstrate the HPM mask ability to address the pilot mask discipline and mission effectiveness issues the pilots survey associated with mask pain.
