Research abstract

Phase I of Ingenia’s Computer Network Defense (CND) Trainer SBIR project successfully accomplished all objectives and established the foundation for a functional prototype to be developed and demonstrated in Phase II. An enhanced design for the Network Effects Emulation System was produced that is capable of the safe and secure configuration, delivery, and emulation of realistic cyber effects that can stimulate operational processes and sensors including the Host Based Security System. The enhanced design also includes interfaces to national and authoritative databases for system vulnerabilities that will assist trainers in designing and implementing credible and current scenarios. Most importantly, the enhanced design allows both cyber and non-cyber personnel to realistically detect and respond to cyber effects using their existing processes and tools.Phase II of Ingenia’s CND trainer project will implement a functional prototype of the design developed during Phase I, complete and validate the CND training CONOPS developed during Phase I, and integrate, demonstrate, and assess the CND trainer functional prototype during one or more demonstration events. The Phase II option will add a Human-In-The-Loop effects controller to the prototype, will address any issues identified in the Phase II base period, and will conduct an additional demonstration event.
