Research abstract

The collection, evaluation, and analysis of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) can significantly influence and support civil and military actions. This is true for traditional OSINT sources such as print and digital media but is increasingly true for modern and informal forms of communication such as the Internet and social media. Non-combatants may use social media to support self-preservation, whereas enemies may use social media to share information, organize, plan, and execute actions against the U.S. and/or its partners and allies. In either case, the ability to train operators to efficiently collect, evaluate, and analyze social media OSINT is necessary.áA social-cyber modeling and simulation capability will provide operators with opportunities to develop, practice, and rehearse social media OSINT operations. Key to this capability are several system features that will ensure its relevancy, realism, and effectiveness including:Researched and validated system use casesIdentification of realistic and accessible social media data sources to train system modelsResearch, validation, and evaluation of Large Language Models (LLM) and Augmented Generation Systems (AGS) for social media content generationResearch and development of a social-cyber modeling and simulation architecture compatible with existing Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) training standards and social media training frameworksIngeniaĺs social-cyber modeling and simulation solutions will leverage and enhance our extensive, existing capabilities and past performance to meet or exceed all stated system objectives. We have award-winning and ongoing experience with both cyber and traditional LVC test, training, and experimentation programs that are directly applicable to social-cyber modeling and simulation. We also have standing partnerships and relationships with training organizations that will significantly increase the probability of transition and sustainment.
