Research abstract

Abstract Optical Cherenkov video imaging of body anatomy and dose delivery can be used now to map out radiotherapy beam incidence upon the patient tissuedirectly visualizing the radiation dose deposition on the patient in real timeThis could serve as a non contact workflow tool for verification for daily fractionated radiation therapyallowing capture of all treatmentsall the timeDoseOptics has developed the C DoseTM camera systemcapable of real time imagingused in on going clinical studies in radiation oncology at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical CenterThe liveD images of the radiation beam on the surface of the patientandapos s tissuewill be integrated with real time optical surface mapping of patient anatomy from surface mappingTo achieve our goalsthe mapping system needs specialized gating off during each radiotherapy pulse on timeallowing Cherenkov image capture atHzthe pulse rate of the linacAdditionallyto make the C Dose images quantitatively accuratea correction for tissue emissivity needs to be added inand active imaging from the mapping projector and C Dose camera will provide thisThe combined system should have better thanaccuracy in calibrated Dose linearityand the combined overlay on the patient anatomy will make the system the most functional yet for beam and patient position dosimetryThis will be all verified in the Phaseand then the combined system will be developed for a multicenter trialtesting for the rate of observed incidents in whole breast radiotherapyThe ROILS data based indicates thatof incidents are discovered during therapy deliveryand so we will test the systems in two centers where the patient alignment practice is differentlaser andamptattoo alignmentvs optical alignmentand track incidents related to accuracy of beam and body positionIn the completion of this workwe will have a completed system ready for regulatory clearanceand have the data required to demonstrate value to the customersbeing the radiotherapy team and the patients getting their daily treatmentThis project is backed by a considerable amount of prior camera development and a critical commercial marketing partnerand will produce the worlds first all opticalnon contact imaging dosimetry systemThe team members involved have expertise in all aspects of the development and clinical radiotherapy physics needed to make the project succeedBeyond this specific application of whole breast radiotherapythere are other key applications in which the system could be useful as wellwhere the field sizes are large and dynamics and patient positioning are critical Narrative Live optical imaging of body anatomy and dose delivery can be achieved with a new productTrackRTwhich uses body surface scanning and Cherenkov imaging combined together for the first timeThis product will be designeddeveloped and tested for FDA approvalsuch that it can be commercializedfor deployment in radiation therapy centers
