Research abstract

This Sequential SBIR Phase II contract for nXcomms  will enable creation of a market-ready, AI-enabled ‘Block II’ technology and content delivery platform with enhanced localization. Our team will add more interactive scenarios, more expressive virtual characters, and AI-driven modifications—such as transforming a character’s demeanor to be uncommunicative and angry. We will also increase precision with a dynamic synchronized physiology for each training event. To improve intent recognition, we will integrate Google Dialogflow CX, addressing unmatched intents in the current system. Additionally, we will provide an optional AI-powered fallback, where a generative AI can handle student inputs that aren’t covered in the scripted conversation. We will enable non-verbal communication enhancement — such as subtle facial expressions, body language, and dynamic gestures— creating more engaging and lifelike interactions, making training scenarios feel more natural and realistic. This will not only improve the user experience but also strengthen the emotional connection between students and virtual characters, reinforcing key learning objectives. This will be done under strict AI-control to ensure responses align with training objectives.
