Research abstract

During the Phase II effort, the ISSAC Team will investigate several objectives and questions posed in Phase I efforts, in order to best develop a draft specification for NGES MVDC DLI systems. This includes exploring notional and conceptual architectures and discerning thresholds for DLI parameters; exploring individual and hybrid protection plan technologies to drive performance requirements for sensing, controlling, and switching through prototype development and testing; understanding potential impacts on mission and non-mission critical systems and developing requirements for other NGES subsystems; and understanding cross-system integration issues and developing architectures and specifications to address potential issues. It should be noted, that the ISSAC Team will leverage existing standards and specifications where they exist and will pose draft standards and specifications where none exist in the public domain. However, because there are elements of this project that have no existing IEEE or MIL-STD standards (e.g., series faults), additional research will be necessary, outside of this STTR, to ensure completeness of standards and specifications put forth in this effort. That being said, we intend to provide the most complete, robust standard and specification given the time available and willingness of DoN resources to cooperate with the ISSAC Team.
