Research abstract

Attollo Engineering is developing a compact, non-mechanical, push-broom LADAR system and analytical capability for use with SUAS for the inspection of remote airfields as candidates for landing zones. The system will use a laser multiplexing scheme using custom laser driver ASICs and VCSELs to interrogate a +/- 30 swath of land, resulting in ~100 m of cross track coverage with 12x oversampling to account for platform vibration and motion and other external influences, resulting in a system rep rate of 1.3 million points per second. The resulting point cloud will be processed with on-board geo-rectification and object detection analytics to provide a ground operator with actionable information regarding the viability of the landing zone and any objects that may be present.
