Research abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY ABSTRACT ImpactOvermillion Americans suffer from hypertensionTimely diagnosis and control of high arterial blood pressureAPare crucial for preventing life threatening complications and end organ damage but have been hampered by the lack of nondisruptive monitors forhourincluding essential nighttimeAP trackingDue to the epidemic proportions of AP abnormalitiesan unobtrusivecuff free AP monitor will have a significantlasting impact on the lives of millions of Americansparticularly those with cardiovascular risk factors and chronic cardiovascular diseasesBackgroundIn Phasewe developed a working prototype of the AP ExpertAPEXa system for nonobtrusivecuff freetracking of the AP waves in central arteries using a multisensor array and personalized calibrationThe system was tested alongside a clinical oscillometric system inhuman subjects and met the requirements of the AAMI standardssurpassing the accuracy of several commercial systemsIn additionthe signal quality was tested in overnight studies in a real life settingat homeand found acceptable for AP trackingGoalThe goal of Phaseof this project is to refine the prototype system for nonobtrusive AP tracking and to test it in larger human studiesIn Aimthe system s overnight performance in the course of sleep studies will be testedIn Aimthe system s performance will be tested alongside a standard intra arterial line in cardiac ICUCICUpatients to determine optimal number of calibration points and to refine the signal processing algorithm based on these dataIn Aimthe prototype will be further refined to improve the sensorsdurabilityperformance and form factorThe expected outcome of Phaseis a clinical grademobile system for nighttime AP tracking
