Research abstract

ARTEMIS Inc. proposes to simulate and demonstrate a prototype of a low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) radar seeker that can be produced at low-cost and provide high range and Doppler resolution with multi-mode capabilities, including SAR, GMTI, and HRR. The system will need to search, detect, and track multiple targets, obtain high probability of detection (Pd) and low probability of false-alarm (Pfa), while maintaining a low-probability-of-intercept (LPI). Simulation of the system examines different waveforms, system parameters, and target detection and tracking, including bandwidth and operational frequencies. The expected system performance will be shown through simulation. The prototype seeker design will flow from the simulation results, and the prototype will be built by modifying and existing SlimSDR radar system (a new development from an Army SBIR).The prototype will be extensively tested and demonstrated in the lab and in flight tests. The flight test results will allow for finalization of the innovative seeker design. The goal is to have, ready for manufacture, a tested, innovative, compact, long-range, multi-mode, high-frequency, low SNR radar that enhances the performance, robustness, and survivability of precision terminal guided munitions.
