Research abstract

Our Phase I research showed that VLF signals of opportunity (SoOps), both natural and man-made, can be employed by submarines while operating at speed and depth to accurately estimate position and velocity with GPS-like accuracy. In Phase II, we will extend this research by developing a prototype system which will be used to evaluate performance and validate the system CONOP and architecture. The Phase II effort will leverage other government VLF sensor equipment developed for DARPA STOIC and demonstrate how the Phase II prototype system can integrate with existing submarine and man-made SoOP infrastructure.
