Research abstract

Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) will provide the USMC with a lightweight, compact, deployable litter to meet the challenges of emergency evacuation and transport of Marines. Current litter/stretcher technology does not meet the strength requirements associated with vehicle high-g loading. During the Phase I Base program, PSI demonstrated a new litter architecture that not only meets the static equivalent JECETS loading, but is also half the weight and volume of current litter systems. The Phase II Base effort will improve on the Phase I design by further reducing its weight and by addressing other aspects of the litter function such as ease of use and decontamination. In addition, the team will address the manufacturability of the litter system, reducing cost while maintaining performance. The output of the Phase II program will be a production-ready design, complete with the associated Manufacturing Resource Plan (MRP) and Master Production Schedule (MPS).The Phase II Option will consist of preparation for full litter qualification to DOD and FDA standards. This effort will include documentation, analysis, and test planning in addition to fabrication of up to 50 production-level prototypes both for field evaluation and to assess the robustness of the manufacturing process.
