Research abstract

In Phase I, Mission Microwave demonstrated the feasibility of a Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA) utilizing novel, compact and low-loss spatial power combining, a high-reliability Gallium Nitride (GaN) MMIC power amplifier design, and a custom linearization MMIC, to achieve more than 70W linear power with more than 35% PAE at Ka-Band.Mission Microwave also fabricated and tested the compact spatial power combiner, validating simulation results. In Phase II, Mission Microwave proposes to build, test, and deliver the complete linearized SSPA system. This will include fabrication and test of the GaN MMIC power amplifier and linearization MMICs.These components will be integrated into an SSPA using the demonstrated spatial combining structure, fabricated power amplifier and linearizer MMICs, and a complete cooling system along with all necessary monitor and control hardware and software.
