Research abstract

The Phase II program objective is to design, fabricate and test a linear 70 Watt power amplifier that is consistent with QPSK and 12/4 QAM and has 35% power added efficiency across the 30 to 31 GHz band.ENGIN-IC will develop a two stage power amplifier MMIC that has an output power near 15 W and has > 45% power added efficiency.ENGIN-IC will integrate these MMICs through planar In / Outphasing combining networks that are aligned to increase the SSPA efficiency with up to 6 dB backoff.A modular building block will consist of four MMIC amplifiers which are combined with the inphasing and outphasing combining networks. Two of these building blocks will then be waveguide combined to allow for linear operation at 70W transmit power and achieving the noted efficiency levels. The product will be integrated into a small form factor of less than 8 cubic inches.
