Research abstract

ABSTRACT: In response to Air Force SBIR topic # AF161-102, Signature Research, Inc. proposes to develop a low-risk technically sound approach to providing a High Fidelity Algorithm to Model the Statistical Variations of Ground Target Signatures. The specific goals of our Phase I proposal include three major efforts. First, we will characterize the multi-spectral signature variability observed in empirical data for a series of T-72 Main Battle Tanks that have been measured with calibrated multi-spectral instrumentation over the past 10 years. Second, we will investigate alternative approaches to implementing target signature variability within the current Model and Simulation framework. Third, we will implement automated algorithms (based on a selected approach) to impose the desired variability using current modeling approaches. Finally, we will demonstrate the utility of the automated algorithm by generating synthetic multi-spectral signatures and comparing the synthetic signature variability to empirical variability.; BENEFIT: At the end of our Phase I effort, SGR develop a Preliminary Software Development Plan and a Signature Variability Model Validation Plan that will lay the foundation for a transition into a Phase II development. By carrying our Phase I program to this level of maturity and demonstration,we believe that the cost-realism of our Phase II implementation and demonstration effort will be very sound. Beyond the prototype, SGRs approach will support commercialization of the system in three key areas:1) Identification of additional DoD simulation applications for the Signature Variability Model (digital, hybrid, and HITL simulations).2) Application of the High Fidelity Signature Variability Model to the War-Gaming industy.3) Application of and adaptation of the High Fidelity Signature Variability Model to energy management of commercial and industrial building using IR modeling.
