Research abstract

ABSTRACT:The objective of the Iris Technology ORDWG program is to design and build a Brassboard prototype of a GPS on-orbit reprogrammable digital waveform generator suitable for ground test and evaluation. This waveform generator allows complete reconfiguration of all GPS signals on command from ground control messages. The design implementation will use far fewer computational resources resulting in lower SWaP-C.Additionally, these algorithms enable expansion in the number of available codes while hardening the GPS constellation against cyber warfare threats now and into the future.On-board diagnostics monitoring is capable of detecting any fault or error conditions, and down-linking status. This architecture facilitates the creation and testing of new codes in real time while on-orbit.Our program plan provides a path to flight while accomplishing the efficient design and coding of waveform algorithms and test methods.BENEFIT:GPS ProgramProtect GPS assets from future cyber warfare threatsReduced complexity in mathematical code generationReduced SWAP-C due to the reduced computational burdenBackward compatibility with all current legacy GPS codesGPS TechnologyCapability of producing 10 new code signalsMessage processor capable of variable data rate operationIncreased the number of available Gold-Codes from 1,023 to 1,025Increased the number of available P-Codes from 38 to 8,796,093,022,208Lossless and interference-free combination of PRN codes with nav messages
