Research abstract

Found Energy proposes to develop a domestic sources of gallium (Ga) through refining from Bayer liquor, a byproduct of alumina production. Gallium is a critical metal for defense technologies, with China currently dominating the global supply. Found Energy's breakthrough technology enables cost-effective Ga production through scalable, modular units at costs well below market prices. This project aims to validate and optimize Found Energy’s refining system to recover metallic Ga from domestic Bayer liquor. Success will provide a scalable, domestic source of Ga, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and supporting U.S. defense needs, culminating in a final demonstration to produce at least 1 kg of metallic Ga.
