Research abstract
The Kronos Micro-Modular Reactor (MMR) is a transportable, high-temperature gas-cooled system that yields 15 MWe (45 MWth) steady power for as long as thirty years with no refuel cycle. Graphite-moderated prismatic blocks and TRISO/FCM fuel keep fission products sealed at extreme temperature, and a strong negative temperature coefficient halts reactivity rise. Passive helium coolant draws decay heat without pumps or water, so the core stays intact without external power or operator action after total grid loss. Kronos links to existing microgrids and shifts to island mode in milliseconds, which meets the Air Force Special Operations Command thirty-day resilience rule, defeats cyber and physical threats, and ends fuel convoys. A molten-salt thermal battery stores ten hours of full output to match peak demand, while optional hydrogen burners extend dispatchable heat without core load change. Technology readiness now stands at TRL 5-6 with component fabrication under way, national-lab validation complete, and early NRC dialogue active. Nano Nuclear holds over $200 million in capital, letters of intent from utilities, data centers, and mineral-extraction majors, and formal collaboration with SAF/IE, AFCEC, and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling to field the first unit. Kronos therefore delivers compact, carbon-free, inherently safe power that hardens critical installations, stabilizes hybrid energy architectures, and unlocks a projected $10 billion global microreactor market by 2035.
