Research abstract

Renze Consulting proposes the research, development, and commercialization of a new cognitive architecture for semi-autonomous AI agents. This will allow the agent to automate complex tasks and decision support in the DoD and commercial applications.áCurrently, three main challenges prevent the widespread adoption of semi-autonomous AI agents. They have limited problem-solving capabilities, high task-completion costs, and lack human-AI value alignment. As a result, we are attempting to overcome these limitations by creating a Large Language Model (LLM) agent with an enhanced cognitive architecture.ááFirst, we will systematically evaluate combinations of existing and novel cognitive enhancements for AI agents. The goal is to discover which combinations of enhancements produce an architecture that improves problem-solving, cost-effectiveness, and value alignment.áSecond, we will create an open-source AI agent using the top-performing cognitive architecture. We will make this agent publicly available and free of charge. However, Renze Consulting will provide for-profit implementation and consulting services around our agent for our clients.áFinally, we will conduct a comprehensive product-market fit analysis, exploring dual-use opportunities within the DoD and commercial markets. Our final report will detail experimental results, commercialization potential, and a roadmap for transitioning the prototype to Phase II.áThis project will increase the adoption of AI agents in the DoD and industry by providing capable, cost-effective, and value-aligned automation solutions. This aligns with DoD priorities to streamline processes, enhance decision-making, and deploy trusted AI capabilities at scale.
