Research abstract

Limit Labs LLC proposes an R&D effort focused on advancing a generative AI solution tailored to the Department of Defenseĺs (DoD) mission needs, specifically within the CDAOĺs strategic framework. Our goal is to explore product-market fit by collaborating with CDAO stakeholders to align our technology with mission-critical applications such as mission planning, ground troop training, and drone operation simulations. Through focused feedback and iterative development, we aim to validate and refine our solution to best serve the DoDĺs requirements, ensuring it meets the unique demands of operational adaptability and scalability.áWe will also continue to research and develop our technical areas of focus, in order to further validate our technology and meet the needs of CDAO and the DoD. Our technical areas of focus are:áCustom Generative Transformer and 3D Data TokenizerDuring this Phase I effort, we will design and train a custom generative transformer equipped with a tokenizer specifically for 3D data, allowing our model to place and organize objects in synthetic environments by leveraging a vector-embedded dataset. Rather than generating models from scratch, our approach focuses on the spatial relationships and hierarchical placement of pre-existing 3D assets, drawing from a curated dataset of embedded object vectors to ensure efficient and contextually accurate scene generation.áValidation with Toy Examples and Small DatasetsTo validate our approach, we will use toy examples and smaller datasets for initial model training, simulating environments in a controlled setting to demonstrate the accuracy of spatial relationships and object placement. This phase will confirm the modelĺs feasibility, particularly in handling complex spatial hierarchies at different scales, from single rooms to building interiors.áHierarchical Scene Generation and GIS Data IntegrationWe will develop a system capable of leveraging GIS data standards to generate realistic terrain and city-scale layouts, accurately scaling synthetic environments while maintaining computational efficiency. This approach allows us to validate our technology in smaller, manageable environments, proving the modelĺs capability to handle large-scale, geospatially accurate virtual scenes in subsequent phases.áOptimization of Scene Compression and Loading TechniquesTo meet real-time performance requirements, we will investigate scene compression and lazy-loading techniques that minimize memory overhead, optimizing large-scale 3D environments for interactive use. Techniques like Level of Detail (LOD) management will ensure efficient loading, aligning with the DoDĺs operational needs for responsive, scalable simulation environments.By integrating targeted technical validation with a deep focus on CDAO mission alignment, this Phase I effort will set a strong foundation for refining our solutionĺs capabilities and exploring broader commercialization opportunities across defense and related sectors.
